New Years Eve

OK, so lets begin with the most important event first, celebration of the New years Eve.

Before we left Sweden, our intention was to spend the new years eve on a nice beach somewhere in Malaysia, we didn’t know where and first when we arrived to Singapore we descide where to go – Langkawi. And we didn’t regret that decission…..:-)))

We rent a hut just about 30 meter from the sea with an excellent view.

Together with a two English guys, a dutch girl and a Swedish girl we were having a great evening and night. At midnight we were standing in the sea with water up to our knees, watching the fireworks and cheers to the new year with local drinks.

For me it was Jamacian Rum and Coke, maybe not so local, but I loved it…. The celebration continued at the Reggae bar for a long time and we were very lazy the next day.

Well, Langkawi is a nice place to be at and we didn’t regret that we choose to go here for new year. But we almost miss our flight from Johor Bahru to Langkawi. Johor Bahru is just across the border from Singapore and according to the guidebook the airport was only 2 km outside the town. After reading the guidebook again we saw that it was 40 km outside the town, 2 km outside the town was the office. So thanks to the taxidriver we finaly show up at the check in desk 40 min before the departure time and we managed to board the flight just in time.

First night in Langkawi we met two Aussie girls at the pub and decide to rent a car and drive around the island. We were visiting the really nice beach Tanjung Rhu, really loved that beach. Did a short stop at the Black Sand Beach, didn’t like that one at all, just look very dirty as it was stained by oil spill. Continue to the seven wells, several small waterfalls with rockpools between which you can swim between through sliding down for the falls. And finally we did a stop at the Summer Palace, which was build for the movie Anna and the king at Pantai Kok.

As i mention earlier we were a little bit tired on the new years day and cancel our plans about to do a island hopping or to do some snorkling at Pulau Payar Marine Park which is supposed to be awesome.

Today we are waiting for the boat to Penang, unfortunately the morning boat was full so we had to wait for the evening boat. Which means another day that we have just been hanging on the beach.
