There are chickens everywhere. In the streets, in the schools, in the shops, in the houses, on the tro tros…everywhere I go I see chickens. Chickens! Everywhere!
And there is garbage and waste disposal everywhere. The sight and smell of faeces in the street is a part of everyday life and does not seem to bother anyone, not even me (not any more anyways).
And people seem to piss everywhere. That is – MEN piss everywhere. Behind the schoolbuilding, in front of their house, along the roadside, in the ditches, next to the beachwalk…they piss everywhere! Even policemen stand in front of the policebuilding with their penis in their hands pissing. Pissing! Everywhere!
Not to forget that people pick their noses everywhere. And they do it any time in front of everyone. I find it hard to restrain from laughing out loud when people start to pick their noses as they were digging 6 feet under while having a serious conversation with me.
And then there is Kokrobite. Kokrobite equals bad luck for my friends and me. Something bad always happens and some of us always end up sick after being there. This weekend Tui and T-H got mugged on the beach early Sunday morning while taking a walk before breakfast. I am the one who got sick this time and are now looking forward to get tested for malaria and typhoid tomorrow morning at the camp clinic. The reggae party at Kokrobite was fun as always though. Just the side effects from being there that kind of suck lol
Only one thing to say: T.I.A… T.I.A! Still Africa. No more, no less ?
With love, blood, sweat and tears from Buduburam,
T.
